Periwinkle preschool has been one of the most sought after preschool among young parents. Following a simple kindergarten pedagogy along with fun filled learning activities, this decade old preschool has seen nearly 800 students placed themselves in well-known schools.

Here’s a light on how teaching methodology has rolled over into a holistic developmental approach. It has transformed from teacher centric to child centric learning. The pandemic introduced new stressors, including health concerns, emotional problems and social isolation. While the transition to online learning came with lot of hurdles, it also provided opportunities for innovation and the development of new skills for educators. It is crucial to approach this shift with a collaborative and adaptive mindset to ensure the continued success of education in such challenging circumstances.

Multidisciplinary approach and its road map to early childhood education at Periwinkle Preschool.

Integration of 2 well-known early childhood methodologies was the key factor. Merging Self-learning Montessori method into the traditional kindergarten was possible after many trail and errors. Working with materials that are self-correcting give children with seamless boundaries.

As Dr Maria Montessori says – “The goal of early childhood education should be to activate the child’s own natural desire to learn”.

Hands on activities with self-correcting sensorial materials like pink tower, brown stairs, colourful play blocks and EPL activities to introducing phonics and rote method of learning for language and math all comes within this new pedagogy. This approach encourages a holistic learning experience, allowing children to engage with academic content in a meaningful and enjoyable way.

Every child is unique.

Every child has its own learning potential

Every child learns at its own pace. – became the mantra of the Team.

  • Observing and understanding the type of learners as AVK learners, help them learn through their senses. Early childhood educators make keen observation during the first month when they start schooling. Teachers get to know how each child learns using their senses. These young learners are classified as Auditory learner. Visual learner and kinesthetic learner. Our curriculum is also aligned with NCERT learning outcomes and in sync with NEP 2020.
  • Working in small groups ensures attention to every child irrespective of potential and pace of learning. So even the child who is slow to grasp gets importance and attention from teachers to move on.
  • Another uniqueness is making our own child friendly Teaching Learning Materials (TLMs) like reading materials, brain gym activities and concept based worksheets. Here using worksheets are much easier as compared to working with books which may demotivate the child from reading and writing.
  • Sharing monthly calendar and curriculum with parents is yet another differentiator. This helps parents keep track of concepts and events on a monthly basis. Parents can reinforce the same learning at home with ease. Parent Partnership Program is designed to involve parents in their child’s learning journey. Making early childhood education fun-tastic.
  • Much importance is given to sensory play and block play for all classes makes way for better social and emotional grounding. These help children remain calm and open extend their comfort zone. While on the other hand these block play is the most effective way of stimulating logical thinking and spatial awareness in little minds.
  • Keen observations of children by respective affectionate class teachers make them connect to the soul of the child. This works on strengthening social and emotional skills. Eventually builds self-concept and self-respect. In the words of Dr. Montessori, we call this as spiritual development - where child learns about self then connect with nature through logical consequence. Eg: life cycle of butterfly or germination of seed compare to how they grow. Hence we have special birthday walks to explain this concept.
  • Its just not enough if we work with children alone. Every child grows up to be a responsible respectful individual of this country. So the role all stake holders, mainly parents and family dynamics have a greater impact on child development. Sharing the care – is the mantra for successful Preschool education. Parent support is the key to this.
  • Now let’s get to know about the Social inclusive intervention program – Periwinkle Team is proud as we complete 2 successful years of social inclusion for children with learning and developmental difficulties.
  • Another achievement is the teacher capacity building through Portage early intervention program which has enabled our team to focus on early identification, providing support and accommodations to children with difficulties.
  • This is an important step in ECE to prevent further delays and disabilities.
  • It is the stake holders responsibility to become aware of childhood disabilities to help each other in the community or to ask for help with the professionals.
  • 11. Right intervention at the right time from professionals can help the child from further damage. We have well connected network of professionals like speech therapist, occupational therapist, neurologist, clinical psychologist and counsellors to guide parents.
  • Hence we also offer parent support training for parents of special needs children.
